Guidelines for Early Care and Transfer of Burn Patients

Pre-hospital Burn Management

The nurse advisory council of the Burn Foundation, comprised of experienced burn nursing professionals, has developed this manual to assist in the pre-hospital care and transfer of burn patients.  “Guidelines for Early Care and Transfer of Burn Patients” is designed in a bulleted columnar format to make it useful both as a teaching tool and as an immediate reference when care is being provided.  For ease of use, this third edition provides a complete specific treatment sequence for each type of burn (thermal, electrical, chemical burns, and inhalation injuries) together with the rationale for each step.

These products can be ordered for a nominal fee:

·         The manual is now available on CD in PDF format for use in busy emergency departments.

·         A handy wall chart in a washable, stain-resistant material that briefly summarizes some of the important information in the Guide.

·         Wallet cards to help pre-hospital personnel assess the seriousness of a burn injury and whether transport is indicated.
